Twitter's New Features 2016

I'm a fan of Twitter, it's a fantastic micro blogging site. I predominantly use Twitter to search for topics of interest, and if you're a person who uses lists to organise people you have followed or followers, then you might share some of my frustrations.

Instead of a complete re-design, I've opted to show you a few ideas I think will improve the list functionality to make Twitter more efficient and enjoyable to use.

1) Filter Lists

Being able to filter lists alphabetically is something I like to see, I'm quite surprised this is not already possible, it makes me weep. There's also some other ways lists can be sorted, so here are some suggestions;

  • Alphabetically
  • Newest and Oldest
  • Members ascending/descending
  • Subscribers ascending/descending

With Added Filter Function

Notice the column of profile images have been replaced with cogs? I'll get to that shortly.

2) Upload/Edit Images For Lists

Currently, if you have created any lists, you'll see your profile image being repeated on the right hand side of each row. If your profile image is a photo of yourself, don't you think it makes you look a little narcissistic? The repeating images are pointless since they are your lists, you don't need to be reminded.

The solution? To allow users the option to upload an image representative of their lists, then when you click through to the individual list, the image you've uploaded will form part of the Twitter card when, this also helps with others to immediately recognise the purpose of your list when sharing it.

It would allow users to quickly find the list they want to view, edit or add members to with ease. It would also make a list more appealing to look at, but that's just me, I like things to look pretty.

3) Ability To Edit Lists From The Main List Page

Currently, to edit a list from the homepage, you'll need to;

Option 1

  1. From your profile card, click either, your profile image, name or username
  2. Click on Lists
  3. Click on the list you'd like to edit
  4. Click on the edit button

Option 2

  1. Click on your profile image on the navbar
  2. Click on Lists from the dropdown menu
  3. Click on the list you'd like to edit
  4. Click on the edit button

Editing A List

Now, all you will need to do is;

  1. From your profile card, click either, your profile image, name or username
  2. Click on Lists
  3. Click on the cog next to the list you'd like to edit

Decreasing the amount of clicks may not seem much, but the added functionality saves you a lot time in the long run.

One last thing... I hope one day we will also have the option to change the following and followers view from grid to lists as I really hate having to scroll so much just to look for a particular Twitter user.

Thanks for reading, and perhaps I might be able to hear about your ideas on Twitter's list functions?
